ABOUT SOUL III
Sustainable Options for Uplifting Livelihood (SOUL) programme has been implemented by IGSSS since 2013. SOUL has been focusing on improving the livelihood status of rural poor families by reducing their vulnerability and increasing the food security through judicious utilization of natural resources (land, water and forest) and other livelihood assets and by promoting sustainable agricultural practices. The proposed third phase will focus on sustainability of the local institutions developed and withdrawal processes therein. Transfer of responsibilities to community based organizations would be instrumental in carrying forward the sustainable development models implemented over the last 5 years.
Key Achievements:
- About 37.57% of the total families have access to credit, due to the project intervention
- Around 46,672 families with increased food security
- Approximately,48,880 families with access to various national and state specific social security benefits
- 19232 families using modern technologies
- 32850 families using traditional seed
Ishok village was one of the hundreds of villages affected by construction of Ithai barrage at the confluence of the Manipur River, the Khuga River and the Ungamel channel in 1983, near Ithai village in Bishnupur. PRDA runs a ‘People credit and thrift project’ (PCTP).
