From a youth-led response to flooding in Ishok village to a community-focused development organisation serving vulnerable communities across Manipur.
PRDA’s journey began in the wake of a crisis that deeply affected communities in Bishnupur, Manipur. In 1983, the construction of the Ithai Barrage led to widespread flooding and submergence of fertile agricultural land, particularly in Ishok village. Year after year, families faced crop destruction, loss of livelihood, and the spread of waterborne diseases.
In response, determined young people from Ishok village came together to address the flooding impacts and raise awareness about local issues. Their collective effort led to the formation of the Ishok Makha Young Development Club (IMYDC) in 1988.
As the vision expanded, the initiative evolved into the People’s Resource Development Association (PRDA), growing into an organisation dedicated to empowering communities and promoting sustainable development.
